Shadow's Story

Shadow’s soldier found her as a very tiny puppy, wandering around on her own on the base – no mother in sight. He thinks she may have been only a few weeks old at the time. Knowing that she was destined to a quick and not-so-pleasant end, he scooped her up and began caring for her. A bond quickly formed between them as the puppy he named Shadow soon became a new best friend. Unfotunately, before she was old enough to really get by without help, he got word that he had to get rid of her.
Her soldier contacted Nowzad immediately and once again they jumped into action —finding a driver who could collect Shadow from the base and get her to the shelter where she became a big hit. Her age when she arrived at the shelter was estimated at only six weeks. With care and feeding she soon grew to nearly double her size.
 
A couple of months later, on March 18, 2011, Shadow made it home! She was met at the airport in Seattle, Washington by the soldier’s parents who will care for her until he comes home as well.
